The Annotated Mental Health Acts is an invaluable resource for barristers, solicitors, psychiatrists, social workers and anyone involved in or affected by mental health care and the legislation surrounding it. It brings together the Mental Health Act 2001 and the Criminal Insanity Act 2006, annotated by Professor Harry Kennedy.
These Acts bring modern thinking into law regarding the governance of the care and treatment of mentally disordered persons and are much influenced by European law and international conventions, many of which are published in the appendices.
The annotations are intended to help the reader by drawing attention to practical issues for those using the Acts and draw heavily from the Mental Health Commission's Reference Guide to the Mental Health Act.
A CD-ROM, containing the full text of The Annotated Mental Health Acts, along with appendices, is also included in the book. The extensive appendices include the associated codes and rules connected with the Mental Health Act, along with:
ECHR Act 2003
Council of Europe Recommendation No. Rec(2004)10
UN Principles for the Protection of Persons with Mental Illness and the Improvement of Mental Health Care
Disability Act 2005
Mental Treatment Act 1945
Professor Harry Kennedy is one of Ireland's leading psychiatrists and Director of the Central Mental Hospital, based in Dundrum.
